Speed Reader - RSVP Fast Reading
Read any article or selected text one word at a time at up to 1000 wpm. Fully local, no sign-in, no data collected.
- Version
- 3.0.3
This one is built but not on a store yet. The page is here so you can see what it does.
Long articles are slow to get through when your eyes have to jump from word to word and line to line. Speed Reader shows the text one word at a time, in a fixed spot, so your eyes stay still and you read faster.
Select some text and start, or just run it on the page and it finds the main article for you. Each word is aligned on its Optimal Recognition Point — the letter your eye naturally lands on — highlighted in red, so words snap into focus. It slows down slightly at commas and full stops so the rhythm feels natural. Control it with the buttons or the keyboard: space to play or pause, arrows to step and to change speed, Esc to close.
Everything runs on your device. No account, no upload, nothing tracked.

Permissions & privacy
Single purpose
Single purpose: Display the current page's article text, or the user's selected text, as a one-word-at-a-time (RSVP) speed-reading overlay. Permission — activeTab: Used to access the current tab only when the user activates the reader (toolbar click, keyboard shortcut, or right-click menu), so the overlay can read the text to display. Permission — scripting: Used to inject the reader overlay (reader.js / reader.css) into the active tab on demand. No content scripts run automatically. Permission — storage: Used only to remember the user's chosen reading speed (chrome.storage.local). No personal data stored. Permission — contextMenus: Used only to add the "Speed read selection" right-click option. Host permissions: None. No host_permissions and no <all_urls>; page access is granted only at the moment of activation via activeTab. Remote code: None. All code is bundled in the package; nothing is fetched or eval'd at runtime. Data collection / transmission: None. No data is collected, stored off-device, or transmitted. All processing is local.
Runs entirely in your browser. It reads only the text you select or the article on the page you activate it on, and stores just your preferred reading speed locally. Nothing is sent to any server. It runs only the code shipped inside the package — no remote code is fetched.
