한국어 도우미: 사전·번역·맞춤법
Drag any Korean text on the web — instant dictionary, translation, and grammar check in one popup.
- Version
- 3.0.2
This one is built but not on a store yet. The page is here so you can see what it does.
Reading Korean on the web usually takes three tabs: a dictionary for the word you don't know, a translator for the sentence around it, and a spell checker for the reply you are about to post. This extension works from the selection instead. Highlight Korean text on any page and a small button appears under it; clicking opens a panel with dictionary, translation and spelling tabs on top of the page you are already reading.
When you'd reach for it
Looking up a word while you read
Drag over a single word and the panel opens on the dictionary tab, because short selections without spaces are treated as words. It lists up to five entries, each with its part of speech and its definitions. Press Escape or click anywhere outside to close it.
Checking a sentence before you post it
Select a full sentence and the panel opens on the spelling tab instead. It shows how many corrections were suggested and highlights the parts that were flagged. This works in comment boxes, chat windows and forms, anywhere on an ordinary web page.
Reading in both directions
The translation tab detects the language of the selection: Korean goes to English, anything else goes to Korean, and the direction is shown above the result. There is nothing to configure. You can also right-click a selection and choose the extension's context menu entry to open the same panel.
Permissions & privacy
It runs only the code shipped inside the package — no remote code is fetched.
Questions people ask
How do I look up a Korean word without leaving the page?
Select the word with the mouse and a small dark button appears just under your selection. Click it and a panel opens over the page with the dictionary, translation and spelling tabs. It works on ordinary http and https pages, so browser settings pages and other internal Chrome screens are out of scope.
What permissions does the manifest declare?
Two permissions and one host entry. Storage keeps your single on-off setting for the selection button. ContextMenus adds the right-click entry that opens the same panel. Host access to all sites is what lets the button and the panel be drawn over whichever page you happen to be reading, since Korean text can turn up on any site. No other permissions are declared.
Why doesn't the button show up when I select text?
Selections longer than 200 characters are ignored, and a selection with no Korean characters has to be at least two characters long. The selection popup can also be switched off in the toolbar popup or the options page. The hover option you see in settings is disabled in this build, so the selection is the way in.
Can I use the right-click menu instead?
Yes. Select text, right-click, and choose the extension's entry in the context menu to open the same panel. That is useful when a page interferes with the small button, or when you have selected text with the keyboard rather than the mouse.
Does it work on English text too?
Partly. The translation tab handles English into Korean, since it picks the direction from the characters in your selection. The dictionary and the spell checker are Korean-language services, so English selections will not give you useful results there.
